Did you know that dancing is a form of art that includes the movements of body parts and especially dance to music? It is a whole-body workout that you can enjoy, and it has its benefits in your physical, mental, emotional, and social aspects.

Physical Health Benefits

Dancing is a very good exercise for the whole body. Dancing at a moderate to high intensity can help improve flexibility and increase stamina and strengthen bones and muscles. Running and other high-impact workouts can be harder on the joints, but because this is a low-impact exercise, it is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.

Mental Health Benefits

  • Improves mood, lowers stress and anxiety.
  • Dance as a tool of therapeutic expression and social anxiety therapy.
  • Dance as a form of depression reduction.
  • Dancing and interconnectedness — social bonding and “self-other merging”

Emotional Health Benefits

Music is a powerful way for people to feel emotions. We feel transported back to a time and place by hearing a song from our past. It’s a way to make someone remember a specific moment from their past.

Dance is intrinsic to music and rhythm. When people dance, they often use their entire bodies and hearts to express their emotions. Research suggests that it’s good for the body, mind, and soul, but it’s also good for the human experience.

Social Benefit

Researchers suggests that getting up and grooving with others has a lot of benefits. According to The Promenade Dance Sport, In their recent study, they found out that synchronizing with others while dancing raised pain tolerance. It also encouraged people to feel closer to others.

This could mean a better future for dance movement therapies because they are already showing promising results. Music-based therapy is already used for children with autism, and perhaps synchronized and exertive dance therapy could also help them connect with others.

“Dancing is more than just moving body parts; it is a pathway of expressing your deepest inner thoughts.” — Normani Kordei.
